The Lost Childhood

During the web surfing , as usual , I came across a very good Hindi Poem by Saroj Kumar Verma , very appropriate to the present situation of a child.

मम्‍मी कहती है – नहीं। डॉक्‍टर;

HOLI - JOGIRA ( JOGIJEE Sa Ra Ra

Anyone who hails from Bihar/Eastern UP will understand how exciting this JOGIRA becomes in the season of HOLI ( Fagwa in local dilect ) . Now I miss all these MASTI and really want to run the time machine in reverse . During surfing I came across some of JOGIRA and could not stop to make it my new post . Here it comes :-

BACHPAN - Where are you

Mujhko yaqeen hai sach kahti thi jo bhi Ammi kahti thi

I really miss these things.... Do U ?

Got this message as a forward in my mail and its content was such that I thought hey its what i always feel....

...When gulli-danda and kanche (marbles) were more popular than cricket ...

...When we always had friends to play aais-paais (I Spy), chhepan-chhepai and pittoo anytime

...When we desperately waited for 'Yeh jo hai Zindagi'

...When chitrahaar, vikram-baitaal, dada daadi ki kahaniyaan were so fulfilling...

...When there was just one tv in every five houses and When bisleris were not sold in the trains and we were worrying if papas will get back into the train in time or not when they were getting down at stations to fill up the water bottle

... When we were going to bed by 9.00pm sharp except for the 'yeh jo hai jindagi' day

... When Holis & Diwalis meant mostly hand-made pakwaans and sweets and moms seeking our help while preparing them

... When Maths teachers were not worried of our mummys and papas while slapping/beating us

... When we were exchanging comics and stamps and chacha-chaudaris and billus were our heroes

... When we were in nanihaals every summer and loved flying kites and plucking and eating unripe mangoes and leechis

... When one movie every Sunday evening on television was more than asked for and 'ek do teen chaar' and 'Rajni' inspired us

... When 50 paisa meant at least 10 toffees

... When left over pages of the last years notebooks were used for rough work or even fair work

... When 'chelpark' and 'natraaj' were encouraged against 'reynolds and family'

... When the first rain meant getting drenched and playing in water and mud
and making 'kaagaj ki kishtis'

... When there were no phones to tell friends that we will be at their homes at six in the evening

... When our parents always had 15 paise blue colored 'antardesis' and 5 paise
machli wale stamps at home

... When we remembered tens of jokes and were not finding 'ice-cream and papa' type jokes foolish enough to stop us from laughing

... When we were not seeing patakhes on Diwalis and gulaals on Holis as air and noise polluting or allergic agents

...the list can be endless ...on the serious note I would like to summarise with

... When we were using our hearts more than our brains, even for scientifically brainy activities like 'thinking' and 'deciding'

... When we were crying and laughing more often, more openly and more sincerily

... When we were enjoying our present more than worrying about our future

... When being emotional was not synonymous to being weak

... When sharing worries and happinesses didnt mean getting vulnerable to the listener

... When blacks and whites were the favourite colors instead of greys

... When journeys also were important and not just the destinations

... When life was a passenger's sleeper giving enough time and opportunity to enjoy the sceneries from its open and transparent glass windows instead of some superfast's second ac with its curtained, closed and dark windows ...

I really miss these things .. do u?

Life Is..........

“Hazaron Khwahishen aisi ki har khwaish par dum nikle,
Bahut Nikle mere armaan magar fir bhi kam nikale.... ”

Life is about having the “Hazaron Khwahishen” and a desire to realize all of them.

Life is about dreaming big and working hard to make them a reality. It’s about winning a match or losing it. If lost, then a desire to win it the next time. If won, then a desire to win it again and again. Winning might be a the only thing while playing the match but sometimes outcome of the match is unimportant because the focus is lost, because the aim is not clear, because being a winner or looser won’t make any difference like when you play a TT match with your boss then thrashing him is really not important. Match doesn’t really relate only to sports. Everything is a match whether it is relationships, a competition or anything one can think of. So, you should know when a ‘win’ is important and when it is important, do not loose the focus.

Life is about celebrating the smallest thing happened to you, which brought a smile to your face like scoring the highest marks in the class, cooking the dinner for your mother while she sits and watches, being in love with one of your close friends when you were just 8 years old, buying a gift for your parents when you got the paycheck for the first time, clearing the interviews of your dream company, getting admission to your dream college, caring for those who care for you etc.

Life is about doing what you want to do. People get so involved with the work that they don’t even realize that there are few things which they used to enjoy. ‘Jahanavi’ in ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ rightly said:

“Shaher ki is daud me daud ke karna kya hai?
Jab yehi jeena hai dosto to phir marna kya hai?
Paheli barish me train late hone ki fikr hai
Bhul gaye bhigte hue tahelna kya hai?
Serails ke kirdaaro ka saara haal hai malum
par maa ka haal puchhne ki fursat kise hai?
Ab ret pe nage pao tahelte kyu nahi?
108 hai chanel phir dil bahelte kyu nahi?
Internet ki duniya ke to touch me hai,
lekin pados me kon raheta hai jaante tak nahi.
Mobile, Landline sab ki bharmaar hai,
Lekin jigri dost tak pahuche aise taar kaha hai?
Kab dubte hue suraj ko dekha tha yaad hai?
Kab jaana tha shaam ka woh banana kya hai?
To Dosto Shaher ki es daud me daud ke karna kya hai
Jab yahi jeena hai to phir Marna kya hai?”

So, keep doing things which you used to enjoy because it will make you feel nice, at least for some time.

SO .......Whats New

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another.
Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.
After that, we're frustrated that we will have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer job, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now.

If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza.

He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, Something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my "life".

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose five kilos, until you gain three kilos, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a break, until you've scored, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Kal Ho Na Ho

Disclaimer: I copied the following poem.

Aj ek baar sabse muskara ke baat karo,

aj ek baar fir purani baaton main kho jao,
aj ek baar fir purani yaadon main doob jao,
kya pata kal ye baatein,
aur ye yaadein ho na ho,

aj ek baar mandir main jao,
puja karke prasad bhi chadhao,

Baarish main khoob bheego,
jhoom jhoom ke baachon ki tarah naacho,
kya pata beet hue bachpan ki tarah.
kal ye baarish bhi ho na ho,

aj har kaam khoob dil laga kar karo,
use samay se pehle poora karo,
kya pata aj ki tarah,
kal bajuon main takat ho na ho,

aj ek baar fir se chaein ki neend so jao,
aaj koi aacha sa sapna bhi dekho,
kya pata kal zindagi main chaen,
aur aankhon main sapna ho na ho,

kya pata kal,
kal ho na ho.

Phir kya hoga uske baad
Ravi se ujjwal shashi se sunder
Nav kislayadal se komaltar
Vadhhu tumhari ghar aayegi
Us vivah utsav ke baad

Palbhar mukh pe smeet ki rekha
Khel gayi phir maa ne dekha
Utsuk ho kah utha kintu wo
Phir kya hoga uske baad

Phir nabh ke ye nachhatr manohar
Swarg lok se utar utar kar
Tere shishu banne ko mere
Ghar aayenge uske baad

Mere naye khilone lekar
Chale na jayen wo apne ghar
Chintit ho kah utha kintu wo
Phir kya hoga uske baad

Ab maa ka ji oob chukka tha
Harsh saranti me doob chukka tha
Boli phir main budhi hokar
Mar jauingi uske baad

Ye sunkar bhar aaye lochan
Kintu ponchkar use usi chhan
Utsuk ho kah utha phir wo
Phir kya hoga uske baad
Kavi ko balak ne sikhlaya
Such dukh hai palbhar ki maya
Hai anant ka tatv prashn ye
Phir kya hoga uske baad.
